Since only the two fastest swimmers in a stroke are entered in Divisionals, a swimmer is advised to select his fastest strokes for Divisionals. A swimmer can enter no more than two events. The heats are then seeded with the swimmers with the fastest times in the second heat. If a team does not have two swimmers for an event, the other teams can bid in other swimmers to fill the empty lanes. In filling the empty lanes, priority is given to swimmers with the fastest times in the event.
When this happens, an event will have more than two swimmers from one team. However, each swimmer is still limited to two events. Mansion House is hosting Divisionals on July After the Divisionals, all the Division coordinators meet to select swimmers for the All-Stars meet the following week.
The sole criterion for All-Stars selection is having one of the eighteen fastest times in the entire NVSL in the age group at Divisionals.
Every regular and special swim meet requires the participation of approximately 50 adults. The adults serve as NVSL officials, team representatives and concession stand operators. The following officials are the minimum required to run an NVSL meet:.
In addition to the officials, who come from both home and visiting teams, the home team needs adults to serve as announcer, runner and concessions stand operators for every swim meet. We also use computer operators to enter the meet data and print the backs for the ribbons. Team clothing is not appropriate if you are an official. Cheering is also not appropriate if you are an official. Picture Day: TBD.
Please arrive on time and in a team suit. Team and individual photos will be taken. Safety is of paramount importance. Swimmers are to obey all pool safety rules during practice and swim meets. Swimmers who do not follow instructions or interfere with the smooth conduct of practices will be asked to leave the practice. It is not fair to the team for a swimmer to disrupt practice. Our concession stand is our primary means of raising funds.

Written communication and swimming ribbons will be distributed through the mailboxes. You can look up information about the league, meet scores and team locations. We chalk the driveway to welcome our visiting team, make posters to hang in the team area, etc.
Before Away A Meets, we will gather to decorate cars optional and make Wizard Wands and put on tattoos and paint nails, etc. The Head Coaches and Team Reps are available to answer general questions and accept registration payments. This is a great opportunity for new swimmers to meet the Head Coaches. Sport Fair will also be present, for team suits, goggles, and fins purchases. Attendance is suggested but not mandatory. Typically held after practices have started, yet prior to Time Trials, this meeting is an opportunity for families new to the Marlins to get information on the structure of the team, meet procedures, volunteer opportunities, etc.
Highly recommended for anyone new to the Marlins, and open to all. On the first practice that a swimmer new to the team attends, the head coaches will evaluate the ability of the swimmer to determine placement within the practice age groups. These evaluations are subject to change throughout the season. The placement of a swimmer may also vary based on the practice set for the day, ie a swimmer may be in a different grouping for free style sets than breaststroke sets. All placements are at the discretion of the head coaches.
All Swimmers require a swimsuit, goggles, and fins to participate. Team suits are encouraged but not mandatory for competition. Unfortunately, the same swimsuit style is not necessarily available from year to year. A new team suit may be selected each year. Goggles, fins, and practice caps can be whatever type the swimmer prefers. Swimmers should have these items by the first scheduled practice. Wearing a team cap provided at the meets is mandatory for girls and highly recommended for boys.
Team suits, goggles and fins can be purchased through Sport Fair during our season kickoff event and at our Time Trials meet.
If you prefer to go to the store, located on Lee Highway in Arlington, phone number is , be sure to tell them that you are with the Mantua Marlins team so they can ensure that you purchase the correct suit, at the correct price. Spirit wear is also available, for order, during our season kickoff event. Typical items available are T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, pajama pants, lacrosse jerseys and car magnets. Samples will usually be available. Prior to the end of school, consult the team calendar on the team website for the practice schedule.
When school is out and until the end of the season, practices will be at Mantua on the following schedule:. At this time, we do not know if Fun Fridays will be possible. All swimmers are expected to attend practice. Regular practice enables swimmers to reach their potential, and impacts their ability to swim in meets.
Year round swimmers participating in USS programs should still attend at least one Marlin practice per week. Swimmers are expected to practice with their age group. This is especially important for relay teams in order to build team spirit. Swimmers are expected to come to practice on time and prepared — with suit on, and with goggles, fins, cap, towel and water bottle.
During practice, older swimmers should conduct themselves in a manner that sets an appropriate example for the younger swimmers. Generally, Mini Marlins should be years old, mature enough to work in a group situation, comfortable in water over their heads, but unable to swim a legal stroke across the pool 25 meters. All new registrants to the Mini Marlin program must attend a pre-season evaluation session to determine their readiness for the program and skill levels for group placement.
This evaluation is usually done after school, on a day in mid June. This program is not meant to replace swim lessons. The lessons offer smaller groups and practice in the shallow end of the main pool, as opposed to the Mini Marlins that practice in the upper pool with no shallow end. Information about swim lessons is available in the pool office and from the lifeguard staff. All of our Assistant Coaches also offer private lessons that can be arranged at your convenience.
The Minis conclude their season with the Lollipop Meet, a non-competitive, all in good fun event open to all interested Mini Marlins. This year the Mini Marlin program will be structured differently than in past years. The Mini practices will take place in the upper pool, from a. Under the current restrictions, each session will be limited to 24 children. Attendance will be restricted to the days in which a child is enrolled. There will be no makeup days. Notice is given that the Mini Marlin program is a child-run program.
Coaches are all in their teens. A kid coach will be placed at either end of each pool lane. Coaches will be responsible for a maximum of 2 swimmers 2 coaches and 4 swimmers per lane.
There will be minimal adult supervision and a lifeguard on duty at all times. The Marlin swim team will provide kickboards for each child; all swimmers must bring fins, which should be well marked with their name. Children with longer hair are asked to come with it tied back or in a swim cap. A free T-shirt is provided to all Mini Marlins at the beginning of the season.
Team suits are not required, and goggles are optional but strongly suggested. Swim fins ARE required and can be purchased during our team gear sales.
Our Assistant Coaches offer private lessons and stroke technique clinics throughout the season. Swimmers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate when extra practice and coaching is desired. Please sign-up directly with the Assistant Coaches on deck after practice.
Its purpose is to familiarize swimmers and officials with the way meets are conducted and what official duties require. No places are recorded and no ribbons are awarded. Swimmers are encouraged, but not required, to swim all four stokes at this meet.
Mini Marlins do not normally participate. Parent participation is necessary as it takes approximately 85 volunteer adults to run time trials! This is the perfect time to refresh old skills or get hands-on experience at a new job before the competitive season begins. There are 40 individual events and 12 relays.
Each age group swims freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. There are freestyle and medley relays for each age group, plus a boys and a girls mixed age relay. An individual swimmer may be selected to swim in a maximum of two individual events, one relay and the mixed age relay. The coaches will select swimmers for each event using a seeding process based on the swimmer's past performance, official best times, and the opposing team's past performance.
This is a subjective process driven by the need to maximize team points. What is best for the team as a whole is paramount in all coaching decisions. Such support of the team needs is recognized by the team and its coaches. Once an A meet line up is exchanged with the opposing team, the only substitutions allowed are with swimmers who have slower times. If you are unable to swim on any Saturday, please give the coaches as much notice as possible preferably at least a week ahead of time.
It is difficult to substitute for a no-show at the last minute. Advance notification gives another child the opportunity to swim. Each team in the division wants to take home the division trophy! Proprietary restrictions must be stated at, or prior to, the time of submission. Please be respectful of the pool's neighbors and do not block anyone's driveway. When team reps and coaches arrive at Springboard, they should report to the front of the clubhouse to check in and receive their meet credentials and programs. Teams will be given a total of two wristbands. No exceptions. There are numerous photo spots throughout the facility.
