A ballast is mandatory if you are installing an HID bulb in your vehicle. Both the components last for more than hours.
The HID bulb gives you brightness for at least hours. But, if you will talk about halogen bulbs, then they last for only hours. So, you can now compare the difference between the lifespan of the halogen bulb and HID bulb.
An HID bulb provides excellent visibility in comparison to a halogen bulb. The light produced by an HID bulb covers three times the area of a halogen bulb. So, it enables the driver to visualize correctly during the night. The HID lights have high energy efficiency in converting energy into light. An HID bulb can generate lm per watt. If you compare with halogen bulbs, then they generate 25 lm light per watt.
HID kit installation is not a difficult task. You will surely get brighter light after installing an HID kit on your vehicle. There is a popular question about how to install an HID conversion kit.
For HID kit installation, you need to follow the below steps. The steps are as follows. The next step is to remove the old halogen bulb from your vehicle. So, for this, you need to disconnect the battery terminal and then gently remove the halogen bulb. Try to wear gloves while removing the bulb. In some vehicles, you will find a different housing for the bulb, So to remove the halogen bulb, you need to remove both headlight housing and the bumper together, which will take a lot of time.
You try to remove the HID bulb from the plastic cover gently and insert the bulb on the housing. If by mistake you touched it, then you need to clean the HID bulb with alcohol. Now place the HID bulb precisely in the same place where the halogen bulb was there. Then seal your headlight housing with a dust cover so that no dust will enter into the HID bulb and affect its efficiency. Run the wires from the location where you will mount the ballasts to the bulb area.
Make connection. Mount your ballast in a secure place and make sure the connections are tight. You can use zip-tie, double back tape or screws. Get access behind the headlight or remove your headlight and remove the H4 bulb as shown below.
Install the HID bulb supplied without touching the glass. If you do you must remove with alcohol. Mount the ballast in a good location. Run any wires through any covers, if any, of your headlights. Connect the bulb wires labeled above to the ballast wires. Ballast has two connectectors, positive and negative, connect these into your stock H13 connector.
If you purchased our relay harness, the below diagram shows the basic hookup. As you can see the relay gets the power from the battery and uses 1 side of the cars bulb connector. The other side factory bulb connector will not be used for anything.
Since these type of dual beam kits we offer include a halogen high beam bulb, installing a relay on these kits requires you to wire the high beam halogen, otherwise it will not work.

See steps 3b or 3c. Step 3b: If your kit included a relay you will not use the provided extra wires shown in Step 3a. Instead the ballast get connected to the relay as shown below. The relay then will connect to your factory headlight plug. Some relays will have two plugs one for each side, while others only one headlight plug. Remember a relay simply gets a signal from your headlight plug, then allows power to flow directly from your battery. This only applies to kits with bulb types H4 H13 Notice on these kits there will be only 1 headlight plug connector.
One of your headlight connectors may not be used. Step 4: Before mounting ballast permanently please test the system. Low beam, high beam and fog light function if it applies to your install. It is best to turn the vehicle on to test the system as some vehicles do not give full voltage when vehicle is running only from battery.
Step 5: Mount the ballasts on any existing bolt or flat surface away from excessive heat. We do not recommend mounting on top of the radiator or in front or behind it. Ballasts are electronic devices which excessive heat can ruin. Make certain the wires with your kit cannot get tangled into the belt line or are resting on very hot components of the engine.
